Project PhDcast

Podcasting and social media research.

Call for Participation

Call for participation in a PhD research project on podcasting in the humanities

Studying podcasts as a distinct media form is a relatively new field of academic research, as the first podcast was released only 20 years ago. The ubiquity and ease of podcasting makes it a natural choice for scholarly research communication: translating expert research into terms and formats that can be easily understood by non-expert communities, particularly those outside the academic environment.

This project seeks to improve our understanding of scholarly humanities podcasting work being done outside of traditional academic institutions by using interviews with podcasters to investigate podcasting practices and attitudes. The project incorporates podcasting practice by using a publicly available podcast series to document and share the research process and outcomes in real time and provide direct and immediate benefit to the academic and podcasting communities.

We are looking for participants who:

  • Are currently or recently involved in a podcast on a humanities subject.
  • Are at least 18 years of age.
  • Have completed at least a BA/BSc level university degree.
  • Are willing and able to record an audio interview, either in person or online.

University affiliation is not required. Podcasters currently working outside of traditional academic institutions are particularly encouraged to participate.

Interviews are expected to take 60 minutes and will be recorded (audio only) using Zencastr. Participants may be invited for follow up interviews as needed.

Please note that recorded portions of your interview may be included in the podcast that is being produced with this research project.

The results of this research will benefit podcasters through the publication of both academic and open access materials, including an audio podcast.
